Full-Mouth Rehabilitation in Mclean, VA

What Is Full-Mouth Rehabilitation?

Full-mouth rehabilitation or reconstruction involves restoring the gums, teeth, jaw, and other structures of the mouth that have been damaged, injured, or infected. This can involve replacing missing teeth, treating infected gums, replacing missing bone and soft tissue, correcting an improper bite, and so on.

There are a variety of restorative treatments that can be used in combination with each other or certain restorations that address multiple problems at once. Full-mouth rehabilitation is a custom-tailored treatment plan for our patients in McLean and Vienna that will be designed to meet your specific needs.

This is why the number of procedures and cost can vary greatly depending on the extent of damage to the gums and jaw or how many teeth you are missing.

However, full-mouth rehabilitation is much more affordable than getting each restorative treatment separately, such as replacing all of the teeth with individual dental implants. This would be very costly and take an unreasonable amount of time.

Am I A Candidate For Full-Mouth Rehabilitation?

A good candidate for full-mouth rehabilitation is someone who has multiple problems with their oral health or the condition of their teeth, gums, and jaw. This is usually because oral health problems have been ignored or treatment has been delayed for quite some time. Some examples of problems that can be addressed with full-mouth rehabilitation at our McLean office include:

- Damage from bruxism
- Multiple missing teeth
- Orthodontic problems
- Teeth that are in poor health or badly damaged
- Damaged or infected gums from periodontal disease
- Gum recession
- Trauma/damage/unhealthy jaw
- Bone loss

What To Expect During Full-Mouth Rehabilitation

Consultation

You will first need to come in for a consultation so Dr. Van can examine your mouth and take x-rays to get a close look at any damage to your teeth, gums, or jaw. We will discuss any issues you are having and any concerns you have.

If you have any cosmetic improvements you would like us to take into consideration, we can work that into your treatment plan also with the restorations.

Treatment Plan

After performing an oral exam, taking x-rays to determine if there are any active infections, and discussing what problems you would like to fix, we can create a custom treatment plan for you.

This may involve a variety of treatments such as dental crowns, bridges, dental implants, gum surgery, veneers, bone or soft tissue grafting, orthodontics, gingival sculpting, and more. You may require a few of these procedures or just one.

Follow-up Appointments

Your treatment may require just one appointment with our McLean practice or multiple. Full-mouth rehabilitation can vary from a few hours to months or even years, depending on the severity of your oral health and structures of the mouth that need restoration. Once we’ve completed your treatment, we may also ask you to come for follow-ups to check on your oral health and the condition of your restorations.

What is involved with Full-Mouth Rehabilitation?

Patients that have dental issues with both function and esthetics can benefit from a comprehensive treatment plan developed by Dr. Van. The process typically involves an initial data-gathering appointment which includes photos and 3D digital scans. Dr. Van will then work with a team of other dentists to develop options and a cohesive treatment plan from start to end, customizing the timeline and phases to guide towards a predictable and successful result.
